Spooky Spokes
Join us for this fun and informative bike ride of the CycLicking tour series. This time CycLicking will take an evening ride during our Halloween themed tour. The ride is designed for any and all ages and really isn't going to be "spooky" but we have designed it to have some light, good humored fun while learning more about Licking County with three specific stops at the former Children's Home on East Main, the old jail in downtown Newark, and the historic Bowling Green Cemetery in Marne. Click here for details:
The tour will start in the day at 4:30 P.M. and end at dusk at the Bowling Green Cemetery on Marne Rd in Madison Township. Parking will be at Crossroads Christian Church (11784 Marne Rd, Newark Ohio). From there the pack will proceed up Marne Rd before entering the T.J. Evans Panhandle trail. Once on the trail we will ride to the old Licking County Children's Home grounds where we will be met by a former resident of the home (Jim Fullen) who will share a few stories about the place. Then, we will travel downtown to the Historic Licking County Jail where we will be met on the front porch by past Sheriff L.D. Hague (portrayed by Marty Myers.) Then you will have the opportunity to meet a former past inmate who was incarcerated 75 years ago on Oct. 18th, 1938- Mr. Walter Robinson (portrayed by Neil Phelps). At 6:00 PM we'll be heading back on the Panhandle Trail and finishing up at the historic Bowling Green Cemetery for a twilight tour of the grounds where Jeff Gill will be portraying Mr. Isaac Stadden who is interred there.
