Blackhand Gorge Bike
Path Paving to Begin

Work to begin Sept. 16

COLUMBUS, OH — The bike path repaving project at Blackhand Gorge is scheduled to begin Monday, Sept. 16. The 4.2-mile path that runs the length of the gorge will be closed for the duration of this project, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).

This improvement project was made possible after the ODNR, working with the Friends of Blackhand Gorge, reached an agreement with Enterprise Product Partners on an appropriate path for the ATEX pipeline. ODNR and Enterprise worked together to determine the least impactful method and location for pipeline access to Blackhand Gorge property while being sure to avoid all dedicated nature preserve land. This agreement means that there will be no open trenching done on gorge property.

In return for access to the land, Enterprise will have the entire bike path repaved. A local company, Davis Trucking Inc. from Lancaster, Ohio, submitted the successful bid. The project is anticipated to take approximately five weeks, weather permitting.

ODNR ensures a balance between wise use and protection of our natural resources for the benefit of all. Visit the ODNR website at
